Cleansing and removing make-up

It’s important to give your skin the cleansing treatment it needs, no matter your skin type. But cleansing and treating oily, blemish-prone skin properly is vital to keeping skin clear and radiant. Whatever you do, though, be gentle! Follow these three top tips for healthy, beautiful looking skin.

Tip no. 1: Remove make-up carefully

Removing make-up can feel like one of those thankless tasks – all too often, we’re just not in the mood. But it’s essential for the health of our skin, and it can be quick and easy with the right products. Pharmacy skin specialist Loubna Id Said is on hand to help us: “If your make-up is light, use a Micellar solution – this is a great way to remove make-up from your face and eyes in just a few seconds.” For more stubborn make-up, Loubna advises to “go for a cleansing milk. But be careful, as a highly nourishing product may prove comedogenic for oily skin.” Whether using a Micellar solution or cleansing milk, apply the make-up remover to a cotton pad and gently dab it on your eyes and face. Don’t rub! The make-up will dissolve and disappear by itself, and your newly cleansed skin can breathe and regenerate overnight.

Tip no. 2: Avoid aggressive cleansing

It’s vital to cleanse your skin every morning and evening, but aggressive cleansing can make your skin irritated and often even more prone to imperfections. In the morning, use a foaming gel to cleanse your skin deeply, or go for a Micellar solution, which is “the best option for highly sensitive skin,” says Loubna. In the evening, after removing make-up following the tips listed above, get rid of any remaining residue by spraying your skin with thermal spa water. Don’t forget to dab off any excess with a clean towel. You can use a foaming cleanser if you like, but take care – choose a soap-free, hypoallergenic product. If you don’t wear make-up, it’s still a good idea to use a Micellar solution in the evenings as it eliminates any daily build-up of grime and impurities such as sebum, sweat and dust.

Tip no. 3: Don’t forget to moisturise

Even oily skin needs hydration! As the last step to your cleansing routine, be sure to moisturise using a product specially formulated for blemish-prone skin. Keeping your skin hydrated will help it regenerate and eliminate any dead cells that could block pores.
