Advice on keeping your skin hydrated

Exfoliating will remove surface dead skin cells and encourage your skin to look fresh and dewy. this is especially important if you have areas of flakiness.

Soft, nourished skin glows all day long. Here are some clever tips for keeping dryness-prone, flaky skin hydrated when there’s a biting cold wind outside…

Prep your skin

In order for your moisturising products to be as effective and long-lasting as possible, create a smooth, clean base.

First clean your skin using cotton wool and a gentle, soap-free cleanser. Then, you may want to apply a delicate exfoliator across your face in soft, circular motions. This will remove surface dead skin cells and encourage your skin to look fresh and dewy. Exfoliation is especially important if you have areas of flakiness.

Smooth with a serum

Next, revive the look of your clean skin with a hydrating, soothing serum. Serums offer a concentrated burst of hydration that penetrates deeply into your skin, keeping it softened and protected from dryness for longer than moisturiser alone.

Apply a few drops of serum to your face and neck, smoothing it in with gentle, circular motions. Leave it to sink in for 10 minutes before applying moisturiser.

Moisturise throughout the day

Apply a moisturiser with an enriched, hydrating but non-greasy formula. Reapply throughout the day, as soon as your skin starts to feel tight or uncomfortable.

Moisturisers restore moisture to your skin, helping to reinforce its natural moisture barrier. That can help improve the look and feel of your skin, giving it a smoother texture and helping it to appear smoother and firmer.
Skin that’s dry in winter is often oily in summer, or both oily and flaky in patches. If that’s you, you’ll want a moisturiser that can hydrate and soothe without leaving your skin feeling greasy.

Use a hydrating masque

Pamper yourself in winter with an intensely hydrating mask, used once or twice a week. Apply generously, avoiding your eyes, and leave it to sink in for 10 or 15 minutes (depending on your product – always check the label) before removing with a gentle cleanser.

This will work to soften and smooth the appearance of your skin, helping it naturally repair itself from the drying effects of cold weather.
